Drifting away from God..

Dear R2J,

I feel like I’m drifting away from God… does anyone else struggle with this?

Lately I’ve felt really distant from God and Jesus. (I am a non trinitarian and do not believe Jesus and God are the same. For me, God can have no associates and this is not paraded in a 3 in 1 form. I feel the devil’s aim is to discredit God, and the most glorious way he does this is to say god is one and then hey presto 3 in 1. This ideology removes from God’s oneness, and the devil gets over this by the 3 in one strategy; Jesus always addressed himself as distinct to the Father).

I still believe in Jesus and in God, but I’ve been overwhelmed with work, stress, and honestly… a lot of guilt.

I keep telling myself I’ll pray more or read scripture, but I never follow through, and then I feel even worse.

I guess I’m just wondering whether anyone else has gone through this “wandering” phase.

How did you return to Jesus?

What helped you reconnect?”

R2J reply:

Thank you for your interest and inquiry.

Many believers experience times where faith feels distant, especially during stressful or overwhelming periods. What you’re describing is something countless people carry, even though they don’t talk about it. It doesn’t mean faith is fading away, but it usually means one’s heart is tired, burdened, or stretched in ways it hasn’t been before.

When life becomes chaotic, spiritual routines slip away, and guilt often rushes in to fill the empty space left behind. But guilt rarely leads anyone back to God. More often, it creates even more distance. What tends to make a difference is small, gentle steps rather than big dramatic changes.

Some people find that reconnecting with Jesus begins with very simple moments: a short verse in the morning, a quiet moment of stillness before sleep, or even a walk outside where the mind is allowed to breathe again. Others reconnect through community — hearing testimonies, engaging in open conversations, or simply being reminded that faith is lived one moment at a time, not in perfect streaks of spiritual discipline.

What’s important is knowing that Jesus does not step away during these wandering seasons. The feeling of distance doesn’t reflect his presence, only life’s problems and pressures which may get in the way.

I hope this helps somewhat, please reach out to us again with anything else that reply may have prompted.

God bless you uniquely,

R2J Team
